Solar Pile Driver GPS: Specify the Data Export

Quick answer

If your solar project needs digital pile records, request a sample export from the exact proposed system and have the receiving team review it before ordering. Confirm the supplied hardware, software, field definitions and handover responsibilities. GPS compatibility or an on-screen reading alone does not specify an exportable project record.

Guidance and a handover file are separate scope items

Published 21 October 2026. This is technical procurement analysis, not a new launch or rule. Vermeer’s undated PD10R product section describes an optional laser receiver and compatibility with suitable third-party GPS systems. It also identifies on-machine pile angle and height information. Those statements concern that manufacturer’s configuration; they do not specify a PV-series data export. [1]

Trimble’s announcement dated 30 July 2021 describes Groundworks as an option on Fundex machines and discusses layout and as-built report export. It is a historical example of an identified machine/software combination, rather than evidence that every GPS-equipped pile driver supplies the same records. [2]

Ask the receiving team to open a sample file

RigSpan’s purchasing recommendation is to include a file-review step in the enquiry. Ask the bidder for a representative, non-confidential export from the actual proposed configuration, together with a field description. Name the party who will open it in the project’s receiving software and record the result. An image of the display can help explain a function, but should not substitute for that review.

Clarify which parts of the demonstration are real exported observations, calculated values, manually entered information or illustrative sample data. Ask what happens when an item is missing, edited or rejected. Keep the file revision and the supplier’s explanation beside the offer so that another software version is not silently substituted later.

Six lines for the digital-equipment quotation

This is an original procurement checklist, not a prescribed data format, engineering acceptance standard or claim that these options are available for a particular PV machine.

Do not mistake an imported default for a measured value

Trimble Business Center’s undated help topic describes importing DPS900 pile-results XML. It lists pile identifiers and position-related properties, and explains that properties missing from the imported file can receive Project Settings defaults. This is a documented behaviour of that workflow, not a statement about all piling software. [3]

The procurement implication is to review the source export as well as the final report. Ask which fields the offered system actually produces, which the office software derives, and which need another survey or manual entry. Have the responsible project team define identifiers, coordinate reference, units, required accuracy evidence and review responsibilities. This article provides no numeric positional tolerance or acceptance threshold.

Request a short field-mapping sheet for the proposed handover. If a required value is absent, label it unresolved and ask how it will be obtained. A populated report column is not, by itself, evidence that the machine measured that quantity.

Identify what the quoted digital option includes

Request separate identification of the receiver, controller, machine interface, software version and any proposed services. Ask who supplies the project input files, sets up the agreed workflow, demonstrates the export and supports the receiving team. Have the bidder state any licence, account, connectivity or continuing-charge requirements instead of assuming they are included in the machine price.

These are questions to resolve for the actual offer. The cited manufacturers’ examples do not prove that an accessory fits a PV rig, that a software licence transfers with a machine, or that a particular export can be produced without additional equipment. If the supplier cannot confirm the requested digital workflow, keep it outside the accepted machine scope or request a separately reviewed recording arrangement.

Connect the data requirement to the equipment enquiry

The PV-15, PV-60 and PV-130 catalogue configurations below are starting points for solar piling discussions. Their listing names do not confirm GNSS hardware, automatic positioning, an export function or compatibility with Vermeer, Trimble or Fundex equipment. Ask the supplier to confirm an available configuration in writing; do not assume the digital option exists.

Use the solar pile driver project brief for the broader pile and installation requirements and the solar pile installation package for machine and attachment scope. Put the digital deliverables alongside the quotation comparison and the pre-shipment evidence review. Existing worksheets are in the download library.

Agree a bounded demonstration and file-handover check with the supplier and project team. A successful import demonstration does not approve foundation performance or certify site installation. RigSpan coordinates equipment sourcing and supplier questions; project surveying, data interpretation and engineering acceptance require an explicit agreed scope.

Buyer questions.

Does a GPS-compatible pile driver automatically include a usable as-built export?

No. Request the actual proposed hardware/software scope, a representative export and a receiving-software review. Compatibility and display functions alone do not define the handover file.

Do the cited systems establish digital features for a PV-series catalogue machine?

No. The sources describe their own products or workflows. The supplier must confirm the offered PV configuration and any available digital integration; otherwise the requirement remains unresolved.
