How to Compare Drilling Rig Quotations
Compare the scope before the total.
Quick answer
Compare quotations against the same technical configuration and itemised supply scope before comparing totals. Mark each line as included, optional, excluded or unresolved, and record the document revision that supports it. A lower total with missing tooling, freight or support is a different offer.

Items to record.
| Review line | Information to reconcile |
|---|---|
| Machine and capacity basis | Same model revision, mounting, power and depth / diameter conditions |
| Tools and auxiliaries | Exact part references, interfaces, quantities and inclusion status |
| Packing and transport | Machine versus packed dimensions, loose packages and gross weights |
| Inspection and documentation | Agreed checks, evidence, manuals and discrepancy closure |
| Commercial scope | Currency, quote validity, payment stages, delivery basis and named place |
| Support and exclusions | Warranty party, coverage / exclusions, response route, training and spare-parts scope |
Freeze a common enquiry before asking for prices.
Send the same project brief to each proposed supplier. Ask each to identify deviations rather than silently substituting a different engine, mounting, rod schedule or auxiliary system. Keep a dated revision so revised quotations can be compared with their own supporting documents.
Separate the line items that change the total.
Use the comparison worksheet to record the rig, power unit, rods, bits, hammer / barrel, compressor or pump, hoses, spares, inspection, packing and agreed delivery services. Do not mark an item included solely because it appears in a catalogue image.
Record unanswered questions as unresolved.
Do not turn a blank field into a zero cost or assume that a catalogue warranty statement is the contract. Ask who provides support, which costs are covered and how parts are identified. Accepting a model name is not accepting every possible variant of that model.
Compare the written scope before negotiating the total.
First reconcile technical suitability and missing items. Then compare the commercial total for the same agreed scope. Keep the final configuration sheet, equipment schedule and quotation cross-referenced so an engine or tooling change triggers a review of dependent items.
Use the review worksheet.
