Geological Core Drilling Equipment Package

Specify the sample and the complete tooling chain.

Quick answer

A geological core drilling package starts with the required sample and drilling programme, then identifies the rig, rods, barrel, bit, casing, circulation and handling items. Model names and rod outside diameters do not prove compatibility with an NQ, HQ or other wireline system.

Build the equipment schedule.

Each line below is a scope item to confirm, not a standard included accessory or a pre-priced kit.

Scope itemBuyer informationSupplier confirmation
Investigation briefSample / core objective, hole depths, inclination and groundCapacity basis for the proposed rod and hole combination
Rig and powerSite access; diesel or electric supply preferenceOffered model revision, power unit, feed, spindle and hoist arrangement

Compare capacity on the same basis.

The supplier XY-2B table lists different depths for different rod diameters. Preserve those pairings when comparing quotations: a higher depth number with a different rod size is not a like-for-like comparison. Ask the supplier to identify the offered barrel, bit and hole diameter alongside the rod schedule.

Resolve the model before comparing performance.

The supplier page titled XY-1A contains a table headed XY-1. We retain that discrepancy on the product page rather than publishing those numbers as confirmed XY-1A specifications. GK200 pages also require reconciliation of conflicting weights, speeds and lifting figures.

Request a drawing-led tooling schedule.

Include the existing tool manufacturer, part references, measured dimensions and connection drawings when reusing equipment. Obtain a written compatibility response for the whole chain. Do not translate a 42 mm or 50 mm rod label into a wireline-system designation.

Keep sampling acceptance separate from the machine list.

Record who defines the sampling method and assesses the recovered sample. A procurement package records the proposed equipment and its limits; it does not guarantee sample recovery, investigation acceptance or performance in an unreported formation.

The schedules and comparison questions are RigSpan editorial guidance. Other manufacturers’ references explain their own systems and do not imply affiliation or compatibility.
