Solar Pile Refusal: What an Equipment RFQ Should Resolve
Quick answer
A pile driver proposal should identify the approved installation assumptions and the process for handling refusal. Keep any pre-drilling scope, project engineering decision and evidence requirement explicit in the RFQ.
Why revisit this issue?
Published 17 October 2026 · Technical analysis. This article revisits DNV’s 2022 commentary, Sinking solar. It does not report a new regulation, tender or market forecast.
DNV discusses variable ground, refusal and the need to align installation practice with foundation design and quality control. Its discussion of pre-drilling also shows why a change in installation method needs engineering consideration. The procurement implication below is RigSpan’s own analysis: an equipment enquiry should expose these decisions before a supplier recommends a package.
Three decisions to make visible
First, identify the approved installation route. Attach the pile drawing and project installation requirements to the enquiry. Ask who has authority to approve changes when ground differs from the investigation assumptions. Without a named decision process, different suppliers may price different jobs.
Second, separate the machine from any alternative-method scope. If the project is considering pre-drilling, ask for a clearly identified option and its assumptions. A proposed attachment does not establish that the revised installation will meet foundation requirements.
Third, specify the information the project will record. Ask the project team which location, installation and exception records it requires. Keep that requirement separate from the equipment demonstration and shipping inspection. These are procurement questions to resolve with the responsible parties, not universal engineering acceptance limits.
Turn the analysis into an enquiry
Use the solar project brief to collect drawings, site information and open decisions. Mark unknowns rather than inserting default values. When quotations arrive, compare their assumptions and exclusions before comparing totals. Return any unapproved installation alternative for project review.
For a PV-series catalogue enquiry, request the actual configuration sheet and explanation of the proposed holder, attachment and handling arrangement. Keep model labels as a way to organise the discussion; use the accepted specification to define the purchase.
Buyer questions.
Is pre-drilling always the answer to refusal?
No. Have the responsible project engineer review the installation method and foundation implications for the actual site.
Does this analysis introduce a new industry standard?
No. It is dated procurement commentary based on the identified earlier technical source.
