Drilling Rig Shipping & Packing Checklist

Compare the scope before the total.

Quick answer

Before booking transport, obtain the actual packed dimensions and gross weight for every package, the machine’s transport configuration and an itemised packing list. Catalogue machine dimensions or operating weight alone do not establish container fit, freight cost or unloading requirements.

Ask which dimensional state the number describes.

The ST300 supplier listing labels its dimensions as packing size; the 400 m crawler listing says overall dimensions. These labels cannot be interchanged. Request a drawing and dated packing schedule for the actual equipment, including loose tooling and auxiliaries.

Use a package-by-package schedule.

The International Trade Administration describes packing lists with package counts, contents, marks and net / gross weights. Use that distinction to request a complete equipment schedule rather than relying on a single machine weight. Its page is US-oriented general documentation guidance, not a China-to-every-country compliance checklist.

Agree handling and booking responsibilities.

Have the supplier provide the applicable lifting and restraint information and have the appointed logistics provider confirm the proposed transport arrangement. Record the destination, delivery basis, unloading arrangements and responsibility for removed components. Do not infer container fit from nominal container length alone.

Reconcile the records before dispatch.

Check that the accepted configuration, packing list, invoice and agreed inspection record refer to the same equipment and accessories. Ask the importer and freight forwarder which documents are required for the actual route. This checklist does not establish tariffs, customs classification or country-specific certification requirements.
